This is a an exciting opportunity working exclusively within Substance Misuse Services in Bristol (Bristol Recovery Orientated Alcohol & Drugs Service) as part of the Engagement and Early Intervention (EEI) team based at Bristol Drugs Project (BDP). This is a newly commissioned role providing essential health care to drug and alcohol users in a variety of settings across the city, including at the site with clinical facilities in Brunswick Square, from a mobile harm reduction truck, via outreach, and inreach to homelessness provisions. The post holder will be employed by BrisDoc. Clinical line management will be undertaken by the Lead Nurse at BrisDoc’s Homeless Health Service (HHS), supported by day to day organisational management from the BDP EEI team leader.
BrisDoc provides a number of healthcare services for the NHS including GP Out of Hours, Daytime GP Practices in Broadmead Medical Centre, Northville Family Practice, the Homeless Health Service, and an Acute GP team based in two Bristol Acute Hospital Trusts. We employ more than 300 staff members and work with an additional 150 independent contractors.
The HHS provides primary care to homeless people within central Bristol.
You will act as an independent practitioner within a small multi professional team, providing nursing assessments and interventions to individuals in a variety of different settings. You will directly prescribe medication (level 1 NP) within your role as a non-medical Independent prescriber and/or distribute medication in line with an agreed Patient Group Directive (level 2NP) following clinical examination in line with current evidence based practice. Your role will provide health care, advice and support to single homeless and vulnerably housed people. You will also act as an advocate for clients and facilitate their interaction with health care services and with statutory and voluntary agencies.

Successful applicants will be Registered Nurse (RGN) and have post qualified experience of working with substance misusers and homelessness. You will also have ability to deliver structured care planned counselling to this client group. We are also seeking applicants who recognise the importance of a patient-focused service with flexibility to meet the needs of our patients and service demands, and have excellent interpersonal, team-working and customer service skills.
- Hours: 75 hours on average per week.
- Salary: £31,500 pa – £38,000 (pro rata) subject to qualifications and experience
