Getting the flu jab this year is more important than ever
Why it is vital that you get the flu vaccine this year?
Flu season is always a dangerous time for many vulnerable people. This year however, poses an even greater risk, with flu and Covid-19 circulating at the same time, increasing the spread of both viruses and the potential for this to overwhelm parts of the NHS this winter.
We strongly urge ALL STAFF to book-in and get this year’s flu jab as soon as possible. This is to protect yourself, but also our friends, family, colleagues and the many vulnerable patients that we serve. It will also help to support the resilience of the health and care system as a whole.
The NHS advise the best time to have a flu vaccine is early autumn before flu starts circulating.
Many will be eligible for a free flu jab on the NHS (please check here for eligibility criteria).
If you work in one of our day time practice services, you should be able to arrange a free jab through the practice itself – if you are unsure, please contact your practice manager.
Alternatively, BrisDoc will reimburse any employed staff members who aren’t eligible for a free jab with £15 to cover the cost of getting the vaccine privately from a local pharmacy – please keep your receipt to claim this back via the reimbursement form.
- Those eligible for a free jab can contact their GP Practice now to book in.
- Pregnant women many be able to get a jab via their midwifery service.
- If you work in one of BrisDoc’s practice services – speak to your Line Manager.
- Alternatively – contact your nearest Pharmacy
Whether through BrisDoc or another employer or directly via the NHS – we need to know how many of our workforce have been vaccinated. Please email your line manager to confirm you have had your flu jab (self-employed staff can email the Rota Team on brisdoc.sessions@nhs.net). They will then update your personal record on RotaMaster.
If you are requesting reimbursement for the cost of the jab you will need to complete the attached form to give to your Line Manager.
Whilst the NHS have suggested people between the age of 50-64 may be offered the flu jab free later in the season, this isn’t guaranteed and may depend on availability. BrisDoc are therefore recommending people in this group to proceed with getting a jab from a pharmacy ASAP.
All employed staff who have received a vaccination (via any route) and informed their line manager by 30th November 2020 will also be entered into a draw to win a £50 voucher.
