Acute GP Team
BrisDoc’s Acute GP Team in Southmead Hospital and at Osprey Court were set up to find alternative ways to manage patients without necessarily having to admit them overnight into a bed in hospital.
Our Osprey Court team takes telephone referrals for medical admissions to Southmead Hospital. The team has a good understanding of the community alternatives that may be more appropriate than a hospital admission, and they will advise your GP accordingly. The Acute GP Team based in Southmead Hospital itself will see patients referred to hospital via the Ambulatory Emergency Centre (AEC, gate 31a).
You can only be referred to these services by your own GP. If there is a follow-up appointment required (for example looking up test results) after you have been seen in either service this will usually also be with your own GP.
The Osprey Court Team is available by phone weekdays from 08:00 to 18:30 and the hospital based team operates from 10am to 8pm weekdays, in AEC (part of the Acute Medical Unit – AMU – in Gate 31) in the newly developed Brunel building. Make your way to the Emergency Department and follow signs to Gate 31 (AMU) Beds 1 – 32.
