The BrisDoc Community Fund began four years ago when a number of BrisDoc employees united around a desire to do something to help disadvantaged groups within our local community as well as in the developing world, and the idea of BrisDoc becoming the platform which could give the necessary energy and resources.
A decision was made that the fund should focus on one international and one local project. An essential qualifier for each project is the potential for BrisDoc employees to get involved if they would like to. For some this will provide exciting opportunities to travel and make new friends abroad. For others it will be a deepening of involvement in our own society closer to home.
Wellspring Community Project – Uganda
The BrisDoc Community Fund Committee has decided to support Wellspring in Kampala with the help of Links International. The Wellspring Community project works in one of the poorest areas of Uganda’s capital Kampala, where many basic needs such as clean water, sanitation, food, education and healthcare, are very poorly provided.
Bristol Hospitality Network
With so many fantastic local projects to choose from, we have made a decision to use part of the allocation to support the Bristol Hospitality Network (BHN). BHN work with and support asylum seekers in the Bristol area. The Committee felt that asylum seekers were one of the most needy groups in our society, those least well provided for by either statutory or voluntary services.
Keep Bristol Warm
We are also planning to help with “Keep Bristol Warm” an activity movement aimed at helping the homeless. There is an event on Dec 6th in the Bear Pit. In addition, we are also helping with a health campaign organised by the Big Issue, also targeted at the homeless.
