BrisDoc Healthcare Services is committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2045.

This plan sets out our baseline emissions, where our biggest carbon impacts sit, what we have already put in place, and the practical steps that will help us reduce emissions over time.

Context

Why this baseline matters

Baseline emissions are the first complete record of a year of greenhouse gas emissions. They give us the reference point from which we can measure the impact of future reduction initiatives.

Previously reported emissions covered only a subset of categories where data was readily available. This updated baseline brings all scopes together into one fuller picture of BrisDoc’s environmental impact.

In practical terms
Our total baseline emissions are broadly equivalent to the annual emissions of around 240 UK homes, or the carbon stored over the lifetime of around 2,200 mature trees.

Where our emissions sit

Scope 3 is by far the largest part of our footprint. That means meaningful carbon reduction depends not just on buildings and electricity, but also on how we buy, travel, prescribe and work with suppliers.

The journey to 2030

To keep our net zero ambition on track, the plan requires a 42% reduction in emissions by 2030. The graphic below shows the direction of travel from today’s baseline to the level needed by the end of the decade.

Progress so far

What we are already doing

The plan is not just about future ambition. A range of carbon reduction initiatives is already in place across BrisDoc.

Governance and culture
Established a Green Board and Green Plan, and introduced mandatory sustainability e-learning to build awareness, action and accountability.
Travel and fleet
Supported active commuting and public transport through employee benefits, formalised a business travel policy, and upgraded fleet vehicles to hybrid and electric where feasible.
Waste and procurement
Introduced food recycling across sites and committed to exclusively Fairtrade tea and coffee with minimal packaging.
Clinical impact
Standardised prescription of lower-carbon inhalers where appropriate and advocated sustainable prescribing practices through the regional Prescribing Committee.
Measurement and learning
Measured impact using the Royal College of GPs Green Impact Framework at each of our GP practices.
Looking ahead

The next phase of action

Future initiatives in the plan focus on four practical areas where BrisDoc can continue to reduce carbon and improve reporting.

Buildings
Reduce excessive heating and cooling, switch to LED lighting, use natural cooling where appropriate, move to renewable electricity tariffs, assess Solar PV, improve building fabric and replace gas boilers with electric alternatives.

Travel
Promote public transport offers, encourage car-sharing, undertake a travel audit and continue replacing hybrid fleet vehicles with electric alternatives.

Equipment and consumables
Deliver digitisation to reduce unnecessary paper use, assess lower-carbon inhaler alternatives and prioritise energy efficient equipment for offices and GP practices.

Data and reporting
Improve emissions data collection, report annually on progress, engage suppliers on carbon intensity and work only with suppliers who are actively measuring and reducing their environmental impact.
Our commitment
We will continue to monitor, report and act, reducing emissions in a way that supports sustainable, responsible healthcare.
This includes better data, annual reporting, supplier engagement and practical improvements across the places, services and systems that shape BrisDoc’s carbon footprint.
Governance

Declaration and sign-off

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 006 and the relevant guidance and reporting standards for Carbon Reduction Plans.

Emissions have been reported in line with the published standards for Carbon Reduction Plans, the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, and the relevant Government conversion factors for company reporting.

Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions has been reported in accordance with the relevant published standards.
