Employed GP Roles in SevernSide Urgent Care
At BrisDoc, we are proud to provide award-winning urgent care services delivered by our multi-disciplinary team, working across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
Over recent months, we’ve welcomed a significant number of employed GPs into our service, enhancing our workforce and achieving one of our most stable and well-supported rotas to date.

Locum / Self-employed GP Roles – SevernSide IUC
Are you a GP looking for locum or self-employed GP roles in Bristol, North Somerset or South Glos? At BrisDoc, we’ve evolved how we work. We have moved away from using agency locums and have stopped recruiting self-employed clinicians to work in our SevernSide IUC Service to focus on developing a dedicated, in-house team.
We are offering flexible employed GP packages that provide all the benefits of employment while retaining the freedom and independence you value.
Severnside IUC
SevernSide Integrated Urgent Care is the Urgent Care service for the whole of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. SevernSide IUC incorporates both NHS111 and GP Out of Hours with the addition of a Clinical Assessment Service run by a centralised multi-professional team working closely together to support the whole system.
Clinicians can choose from a mixture of shift types:
- Face-to-face appointments at one of our Treatment Centres
- Mobile home visiting service
- Telephone triage
- Clinical Coordinator
- Professional Line – offering peer to peer support to fellow clinicians
- Remote home working
- The IUC service runs 24/7, 365 days a year with the majority of our shifts available weekday evenings and overnights and 24hrs at weekends and bank holidays.
Our clinicians are all able to access in-hours EMIS records whilst on shift, to support clinical decision making. There is also a friendly senior GP on shift (Clinical Coordinator) ready to provide advice to all clinicians when needed. There are also opportunities to work remotely (from home) with full access to clinical systems.
The work is free from paperwork, is time-bound and is interesting “proper” medicine. We have an open and supportive culture, with regular case-based forums and other learning avenues. You can work from as little as four hours a month alongside your current role, picking up as many ad hoc shifts as you wish, or commit to a regular shift pattern.
BrisDoc In-Hours Practice Services
We are perfectly placed to offer exciting career opportunities for clinicians to work either exclusively for one practice or across a portfolio of our services with the benefit of predictable working patterns.
With two well-established training practices, senior clinical experience and our organisational structure, there is ample opportunity for career development such as leadership, training and mentoring.
We promote protected time for both individual support through mentoring, and peer support within the practice and wider team. We have an active programme of shared education and learning across the practices with our clinical forums; these also provide the opportunity to network with clinical colleagues from other BrisDoc teams.
We are actively embracing allied health professionals such as clinical pharmacists, and adopting practices such as workflow optimisation, care navigation, use of technology, promotion of self-care and social prescribing to protect our GP’s time and workload.
Homeless Health Service
BrisDoc clinicians can choose to work in our Homeless Heath Service and see and treat homeless patients who visit the Compass Centre in Stokes Croft as well as outreach teams who actively go out into the community to seek homeless patients who may need our help. Patients can drop in for appointments with either a GP or a nurse five days a week.
Homeless Health’s daily clinics and drop-in service offers:
- general health advice and treatment
- support and advice re: mental health problems
- safe injecting advice
- minor injury care
- testing for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy; all contraceptive methods available
- drugs/alcohol support and referral to other specialist services
- testing and counselling for blood borne viruses such as HIV/Hepatitis B & C
- opticians service
- referrals and liaison with other health and homeless services.
No after-shift admin work to be completed
One of the many benefits our clinicians enjoy, is being able to finish their session on time with low levels of administrative work needed. Typically most, if not all, can be completed during your shift.
Working in the Integrated Urgent Care Service, your work is managed through Adastra so that at the end of your shift you can go straight home.
In our GP Practices, admin time will be allocated within your agreed session.
Facilitated appraisal and mandatory training needs
Clinical Guardian is our award winning audit system for Integrated Urgent Care. This provides you with feedback on your consultations which is summarised to provide evidence for your appraisal and revalidation. We can also provide patient feedback including compliments, on a named clinician basis.
When there is space we are happy to help independent contractors to meet mandatory training needs for a small nominal charge. For all employed staff, mandatory training is provided as part of the rewards package.
