As many of you will know, clinicians from BrisDoc’s Homeless Health Service run weekly outreach health clinics at One25, a local charity that is quietly trying to improve the lives of vulnerable sex workers in Bristol.
This month the team at One25 were honoured with a royal visit from Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The Duke and Duchess commuted through the snow to meet with staff and volunteers. They listened to the huge challenges that women face and saw first-hand some of their incredible strength as users of the service shared stories of how One25 helped them escape the streets. They witnessed how the charity give non-judgmental, unconditional love and support.
As the Royal couple were shown the food bags being prepared, the Duchess asked for a “Sharpie marker”. She then began to draw hearts and notes on the bananas, including the words: “You are strong”, “You are loved”, “You are brave”, “You are special”. The food parcels were then delivered along with blankets, condoms, hot water bottles and advice from the charity’s experts, to women on the streets.
Congratulations to all the team at One25 and thank you for all the incredible work you do.
