In an unexpected turn of events, Dr Mike Taylor of BrisDoc’s Homeless Health Service seized an opportunity at the “Who Cares Wins” national Awards. Sitting next to none other than Sir Stephen Powis, the Medical Director of NHS England, Dr Taylor extended an invite to see our Homeless Health service operations in action.
To our delight, Sir Stephen’s office promptly followed up, and a visit was arranged for the 23rd. Despite the short preparation time, our aim was to showcase the authentic daily efforts of the HHS team.
Feedback from Sir Stephen and his team was overwhelmingly positive, noting Dr Taylor’s deep commitment and the respect he shows for patients and colleagues alike. They praised the flexible service model for addressing health inequalities and improving outcomes.
Key observations included:
- The strategic placement of our surgery for accessible, holistic patient care.
- The potential for our service to evolve into a more mobile and flexible social partnership.
- Recognition of our team’s experience and commitment to the community.
- Opportunities to strengthen dental care pathways and engage with local dental services.
- Challenges in shared patient records and nutrition assessment guidance.
This visit and feedback reinforce our commitment to innovative care and the strong bonds we forge with both the community and the wider healthcare sector.
