BrisDoc’s Community Fund have just approved further financial support to Wellspring to enable them to open the ground floor of the new Health Clinic and move from the current location. The current facilities that the team are working in are very cramped with just two consulting rooms (without wash basins), a corridor which doubles as a treatment room and a small bedded area at the rear of the building.
It is envisaged that the Community Fund will be able to join other sponsors to enable a second floor to be added to the Health Centre to allow the team to have wards to care for patients needing 24/7 care.
The BrisDoc Community Fund has been supporting the Wellspring Project since 2015 to build a new Health Centre in Kampala, Uganda.
In August 2017 Dr Mike Taylor (Homeless Health Lead GP) and Dr Ray Montague (BrisDoc Executive Chair) visited the team in Uganda and were welcomed by Herbert and Eve. Their time in Kampala was spent working with the clinical team and with the local school.
Over the next few years we would like to send teams of four people to see the progress and to support the clinical team and local school. We would ideally like the teams to be a mix of clinical and operational team members.
We expect that the clinicians will be able to observe and contribute to the care of the patients. There are opportunities for the managerial or operational people to work with the local school children and pass on skills.
