On Thursday 19th July, a community outreach session was held at Carr House in St Pauls. The main aim was to increase awareness of measles and MMR vaccinations to the Somali community. This has been funded by the MMR innovation fund. Broadmead Medical Centre, Charlotte Keel Medical Practice and Montpelier Health Centre collaborated with a community group who were responsible for inviting members of the community. A Somali breakfast was held and a crèche was available. During the morning there was a presentation on measles and MMR, and Eve Russell the latent TB community nurse attended and gave a presentation on latent TB. About 40 women attended. Focus groups were held and nurses from BMC, CKMP and MHC were available to discuss with attendees these important issues.
The session was a great success.
