Frank Burge – Queen’s Nurse

BrisDoc’s Head of Out of Hours Nursing Frank Burge has been awarded the title of Queen’s Nurse.

The title of Queen's Nurse can be awarded to an experienced Nurse who is committed to high standards of practice and patient-centered care. The Queen’s Nurse Institute supports innovation and best practice, in order to improve care for patients. They believe that one way to do this is to bring together community nurses who share common values with a shared title.

Project Uganda

Project Uganda

Over the past 2 years, the BrisDoc Community Fund has been funding an ambitious project to build a brand new primary care health centre in Kampala, one of the poorest, most neglected and under resourced areas of Uganda.

After a slow start, the project has sprung into life making some fantastic progress over the past 12 months. With that in mind it was high time for a visit to see for ourselves the amazing work being carried out.

Dr Ray Montague (BrisDoc Chairman) and Dr Mike Taylor (Lead GP from BrisDoc’s Homeless Health Service and Chairman of the BrisDoc Community Fund) made a week-long visit to Kampala. What follows is a fascinating diary account of their time at the Wellsprings project.

From 4 July 2017, the A&E unit at Weston General Hospital will be temporarily closed overnight between 10pm and 8am. During these times, emergency ambulances will automatically be diverted to a neighbouring A&E unit. You will still be seen in A&E during the day and the main hospital remains open as usual.

Northville – Cycling to success !

Aiming to collectively walk 5 million steps is a great challenge to boost your health and wellbeing. However, many of the staff at Northville Family Practice were finding this hard to achieve being based in a converted house on a busy main road where there was little opportunity to build up the number of steps in a confined space.
